Tsunami

Though highly unlikely in Anguilla, this hazard is the one that is most likely to cause the most collateral damage, representing a high risk to: people, property, the environment and general operations. This threat therefore has the highest consequence and impact scores, based on the Evaluation Tool used. Anguilla, due to its size and position is very vulnerable to this threat and could face disastrous impacts. Earthquake activity in neighbouring Caribbean islands have the potential to produce tsunami waves that may reach Anguilla’s shores.

Preparing for a Tsunami
Know the Signs
  • Feel a strong or long earthquake,
  • See a sudden rise or fall of the ocean, or
  • Hear a loud roar from the ocean.
Know the assembly points
  • turn refrigerator to its coldest setting.
  • Turn off utilities if instructed by authorities.
  • turn off propane tanks.
  • Charge phone and emergency electronics.
